The Public Ministry of the State of Paraíba wants to consolidated the so-called social-control councils, particularly the protection of the rights of older persons.
The Project aims to establish Local councils of Older persons in the cities of the State of Paraíba where they have not yet been developed, and to enhance the performance of those not fully effective for lack of technical expertise. It aims, also, to articulate older people advocacy bodies and organizations to operate jointly, in order to make their actions more effective.
The Local Councils of Older Persons are being developed throughout the country, and need support to become operational and ensure the rights of older persons. The State of Paraíba has 223 cities, but only 90 Local Councils of Older persons. The project to be developed in this state will serve as model for the rest of the country.
